Well it won’t be long before we see Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey in the same ring again. After suffering a stunning loss at UFC 193 in November, UFC President Dana White has spoken — and hasCONFIRMED a rematchDATE for both women. Scheduled for July 9 in Las Vegas, White has told Holm that her next opponent will be Rousey, despite her opinion on the matter. Holm’s manager Lenny Fresquez expressed concern that Rousey won’t be ready in July, saying “I’m not sure Ronda will be ready for a July fight. She took a severe beating and I don’t think it’s in her best interest to take the next fight so fast. They told me she’s been ready and cleared, but …” Fresquez proposed that Holm defend her bantamweight championship belt by fighting top-ranked contender Miesha Tate.
Despite his reservations, White is firm on his stance. “Ronda is the fiercest competitor I have ever met inMY LIFE and she’s also very proud,” he said, “What made the world love Ronda is that Ronda absolutely 100% knew she was not going to lose. … People rallied around this powerful female figure. [She’s] never lost a fight. She will overcome it and be back.”
“She got clipped, stayed in there and tried to fight through it. She told me she was in there, she was rocked, and she’d never been rocked like that before. And the things that were going on in her head – what she was doing – she’d never been in that situation.”
So clear yourCALENDARS for July 9 as we wait for these two fighters to get back into the ring for what will be another must-watch. In the meantime, click here to see why Ronda Rousey succumbed to Holly Holm.
